One of the most memorable games of all time comes to the Game Boy Advance! In this picture-perfect port of the Super NES classic Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island, the unlikely duo of brave Yoshi and baby Mario must together brave the beautiful yet treacherous wilds of Yoshi's Island. Richly varied gameplay, brilliant graphics and precision control perfectly meld in an adventure you won't be able to put down!

Oh no! It looks like your granddad was right--things really were better in the old days. At least they were if you liked 2-D platform games, and Yoshi’s Island is indisputably one of the best ever made.

Yoshi’s Island goes back in time to recount the touching story of the various Yoshis' attempts to unite Baby Mario with his parents. You don’t actually control the Italian plumber-to-be but instead his dinosaur pal, who has the curious ability to eat his enemies and then immediately turn them into eggs, which he can then fling at more enemies.

Since Yoshi isn’t particularly fast and can float in midair for a few seconds after making a jump, the whole dynamics of the normal Mario gameplay have changed, but the same incredible attention to detail and endless imagination that mark all of Nintendo’s best efforts are still here in full effect. In fact they’re joined this time, after the rather plain-looking prequel, by some wonderful pastel-shaded graphics that were jaw-dropping when the game was originally released in 1995 and still manage to impress now.

As with the other Super Mario Advance titles, this game also contains a four-player version of the original Mario Bros. arcade game, making it even more of a bargain than it already was. --David Jenkins, Amazon.co.uk

It is an excellent product.

My kids love it. This is the second purchase after the first one wore out.

Toughest and greatest Mario game ever

This technically isn't a Mario game, since it stars Yoshi as the main character. However, "Yoshi's Island" is still one of the most challenging platformers ever made, throwing a whole swarm of tough enemies and long stages.

It looks like a simple game. The childish story is about reuniting Mario with his brother, captured by a Magikoopa. Most of the action lies with Yoshi, who can hover in the air, throw eggs and pound the ground with his butt.

But don't be fooled by the childish drawings. "Yoshi's Island" is tough as nails. Part of the challenge is attributed to Yoshi, who is almost invincible. He can take multiple hits without losing a life. However, whenever Yoshi gets hit, Mario is trapped in a bubble until Yoshi pops it to get him back.

The true test of skill is to open up all the extra levels. Players can only unlock them by earning 100 percent in each level. This means that players have to get all the red coins, stars and flowers in the stage. And players lose stars after Yoshi is hit.

Thus, the gameplay leads to some especially difficult situations with loads of enemies on the screen at once. The extra levels are the most hair-raising platform exercises. Yoshi sometimes has to navigate through loads of watermelon seed-spitting monkeys without getting hit.

Sure, the music can annoy gamers. Baby Mario might irritate countless numbers of people with his annoying cries for help. However, the immense size of the levels feature some especially epic jumping sections that even Super Metroid cannot match. Players will enjoy every second of grabbing all the goodies to get 100 percent for each world. The cute graphics also soothe people's minds as they are desperately trying not to get hit.

Super Mario World 2 is like a fast-paced trial by fire. It might cause people to throw their Game Boy down in agony, but they will still love every second of jumping and hovering with exact precision and timing. This game is a definite classic.

worked for one day

Granted, this was a used game, but after playing it only 3 times it stopped working. The game never loaded again, even on another Gameboy.
My daughter saved $16 to buy this and ended up in tears, We feel ripped off.

Great game

Just a really fun game i am glad it was made for gba systems so i could play it again although i do miss playing it on snes.

An Old Classic

A fun and well loved game for Gameboy and Super Nintendo. I have never actually played it for the Gameboy but I had for the SNES years back and defiantly would buy it for the Gameboy now that I have a way to play them.

This s a fun loving game with wonderful characters, a beautiful storyline, and easy-to-hard levels. It's a great game even for little kids under 10. The Mario Series is one of the best out there and if you love the little green Dinosaur known as Yoshi you will love this. Not only do you see the classic Green Yoshi you see other colors too!
