Each installment of the Final Fantasy series has featured strong storytelling, characterization, and strategic combat, fun minigames, and hours upon hours of captivating gameplay. The 10th title in the series is no exception. This is the first time a Final Fantasy game has appeared on the PlayStation2, and it takes full advantage of the increased technical capabilities. The story this time concerns Tidus, a blond-haired star of a sport called Blitzball. While he is playing in a match, Tidus's city is attacked by an evil force called Sin, and everything is destroyed save Tidus and his guardian Auran. The adventure begins as the pair are somehow transported to another world. From here on, it's standard Final Fantasy gameplay: fight battles, manage experience points, learn new powers, and recruit a motley crew of nonplayer characters to join your quest. The graphics, however, take things to a new level. They are amazing not only for their realism, but also for their imaginative art design. The world these heroes inhabit is breathtakingly beautiful, flowing, and full of inventive surprises. You haven't lived until you've surfed cables high in the air, or ridden a graceful airship through the clouds. The stunning effects are on display when you use magic in combat, summon gigantic monsters, and use fire columns to devastate your foes. One new element is voice acting. The innovation yields predictably mixed results: it's wonderful to hear spoken dialogue rather than read subtitles, but as with most games translated from Japanese, the acting is mediocre and sometimes unintentionally hilarious. Still, the game's new graphics engine and solid gameplay are sure to please fans of the series waiting to see what Square has in store for them. While Final Fantasy X doesn't offer much innovation, it also doesn't disappoint. And fortunately, with Final Fantasy XI already in development, the title is still a misnomer. --Andrew S. Final Fantasy X is the first title in this landmark RPG series to be released for the PlayStation2. The main characters are Tidus, a star of blitzball (a hugely popular sport in the Final Fantasy universe), and Yuna, who has learned the art of summoning and controlling aeons, powerful spirits of yore. These two people of different backgrounds must work together as they journey through the world of Spira. This installment of Final Fantasy has a distinctly Asian influence, bringing a fresh feel to the characters, music, settings, and story.Features include voice-overs for the first time in the series (utilizing the Facial Motion System), high-polygon, motion-captured player characters designed by Tetsuya Nomura, and a camera that automatically adjusts its perspective to correspond with the movements of the characters--a feature now possible because the game is largely polygonal.

Incredible game, need international version though.
This game is worth ever penny. It has everything an rpg lover likes, great story, charcters with thier own personalities, and fun attacks and enemies. With that said, does anyone know where I can purchase an international version of this game?
Best Game Ever!!!
This game is the best game that I have personally ever played and I still play it now 7 years after release, and im not a Final Fantasy fanboy, this is the only Final Fantasy game that I have liked (only played 4 of them ). The story is the best I have seen in a game, and there are plenty of extra things for you to do throughout the game. The level-up system is very original and adds a ton of replayability to it.
A must have for any RPG lovers.
Final Fantasy X is a must-have for anyone, not just rpg lovers. With its intense storyline and innovative gameplay, FFX is definitely worth the twenty dollars (or however much it costs).

I first purchased this game in 2002 when it came out. I paid around $49 for the thing. And I don't regret one dime I spent!
This was not my first Final Fantasy, but I had had a hard time getting into some of the PS1 installments of the series for the simple fact that...you had to READ TONS AND TONS OF DIALOGUE! (ugh!)
So the first cool thing about this game is the fact that...yay! They talk!
While a few reviews have said that it is laughable at times...and it is true, but It's more of how the audio was placed into the game and the timing of what is said. Not the actually acting itself.
I read another review that said that the FMV's are SOOO LOONNNGGGG and take up SOOO MUCH time. Yeah...if all you do is follow the story line scene after scene! The WHOLE POINT of ALL the Final Fantasy series is to go beyond the story and level up,do the side quests, and find special items and what not. Which can be difficult and annoying...and CHALLENGING. (But isn't that why we play video games in the first place?)
Anyway, this game is incredibly detailed. Can last forever with literally thousands of secrets to unveil, items &weapons to find, and new creatures to see!
The characters and story line are engaging and by the time you've finished the game....you've spent a good amount of time with those guys and find yourself crying at the end when it's over!
This is such an enjoyable game and I'm not sure how many times I've taken it out to replay certain parts or the whole thing over again.
The FMV scenes are beautiful, but regular gameplay is still incredible detailed!
As far as the soundtrack goes there are only two songs that I absolutely despise in the and that's the Chocobo song and 'Victorious' song they play at the end of a battle. (they use higher notes so it drives me nuts!) But I love the game and often find myself humming along to the beats as I'm going along...haha.
I LOVE this game and I'm so happy that they made a sequel to it (a more lighthearted, but just as fun sequel!)
I highly recommend you try it out, and now that it's a Greatest Hit and less than half the price I paid for....it's well worth it.
Knocked me Flat
This is one of the most engaging RPGs I've ever encountered. To be fair, I've more or less stopped gaming since I played it a few years ago, but I have tried subsequent Final Fantasy titles and none of them have interested me at all. I'm also not somebody who cares about online play.
The story, the battle system, the side quests and the graphics (for a PS2 title) are all supreme. One of those titles I wish I could forget and experience all over again.
I was overjoyed when X2 came out, but that was before I played it of course. Once again, they've completely failed to come out with a sequel that's either worthy of or really connected to the previous title (see Final Fantasy Tactics, another standalone work of genius).
